Meeting Minutes 13 Nov 2017

Welcome & Announcements:
**We welcomed a friend of Karen’s, Hieu Smith to our meeting.
**Peggy Hayes joined the guild.
**Kimmi is hosting our annual Christmas Party this year!  Directions and more details will be forthcoming.  We will feature our card exchange after our potluck.  The guild will provide the meat and we will provide the sides.  It will be December 12 at 6:30.  Please RSVP so we know how much meat to buy.
**We have secured Jacqueline Sullivan for ‘Luscious Layers’ at Cottonwood Fri/Sat March 23/24.  There are 16 slots available with more information to come closer to the event.
**Deb Pruitt promoted 2 gallery showings.  One is the Saturday after Thanksgiving with all pieces for sale under $100.  The second one is on First Friday at Cottonwood.
**Karen reminded us we subscribe to Letter Arts Review and Bound & Lettered that can be checked out of out of the traveling library she so faithfully brings each month.
**We have been invited to feature our collective work at an art show next August at Commonwheel in Manitou Springs.  Pieces can be flat, (framed, matted, and wire hung) or 3 dimensional.  It would be good to have extras on hand to fill in for what sells.  Reproductions are fine.  We need to provide food for the opening for Manitou’s 3rd Friday’s Art Walk.  No advertising is needed on our part and all pieces should be ‘for sale’. The commission is we get 60% and they take 40%.
**We are planning for a retreat next year at St. Francis Retreat Center on Friday, Oct 26, 2018 with a program to be determined, and another one in 2019 at the Hideaway around the weekend of October 19, 2019.
**Candy asked if Shelley would be willing to teach us a fun, bouncy letter style next year and she said YES!
**Kim Hetherington will be teaching a pop-up card class in January and other classes every other Saturday.  Look on their Facebook page under ‘Binders Keepers’.
**Pat suggested we add members’ business info/website addresses to our member roster.
**Kathie shared the book ‘Uncommon Numbers’ by Brenda Casey showing the various ways and styles numbers can be used.    She also promoted the use of the Speedball Textbooks as inspiration for layout and design.  They are small and very portable when traveling.

Show & Share:
**Carole showed paper beads she and Cheryl made from paste paper and strips of magazines they will feature as a meeting ‘make and take’ sometime next year.
**Kimmi showed the fabric she printed off in Cecelia’s 4-hour stand-alone class at Cottonwood as well as her sketchbook for the cruise she took in Sept.

Evening Presentation:

**Tammi Jo showed us how simple Akim Cursive is.  She had examples of Hans Joachim Burgert’s work and had us analyze a sample of his writing to evaluate the hand’s characteristics.  It is a mono-line alphabet made with a swaying rhythm of sweeping u’s, w’s, and y’s and arching n’s and m’s and h’s.  Pop’s of color can be added to the borders she created around cards.
