‘Cheaters’ Illuminated Letters with Karen McGinn

Welcome & Announcements:

**We welcomed mother and daughter duo, Jennifer and Serena Muser to our meeting!

**Toni Reilly, a longstanding member, now housebound, and Elma Whitford, recently in rehab, would appreciate cards of encouragement from the guild.  Candy passed around slips of paper with their names and address to make it super easy for us.

**Lynn Friedburg announced that the Board thinks it would be a great idea if we submitted work for sale to the Commonwheel Gallery in Manitou for a show sometime in 2022.  The gallery needs photos of work we would likely submit.  3-D pieces, framed work, cards, etc are all welcome.  The gallery expects us to price our work and they will take 40%.

**Kimmi is offering her home and workspace for a card making day, complete with lunch Friday, June 18th.  Please let the know if you plan to show up.

**Our guild retreat at the Hide Away is scheduled for Oct 22/23. Angie Tingle, Leslie Boehm, and Sherry Weaver have agreed to teach us something fun and useful!!

Show & Share:

**Lynn, Kimmi, Carole, Betsy, and Kristi brought work they did at the recent Pastepaper workshop.  Most of them showed their boxed art, mini-galleries, and clutches/card holders made from decorated Kraft-Tex papers.

**Candy passed around several of her “Zoom” cards she made while she was on conference calls during Covid!

Evening Presentation:

**Karen McGinn did a fabulous job of showing us the basics to create an illuminated letter the easy way!  She passed around large images of illuminated letters she’d copied from a Dover book of letters.  She had a handmade sheet of 5x7 paper at each place with a corresponding piece of Saral paper for tracing the image of our choice of letter onto the handmade paper.  Once the image was transferred, she gave us the choice of adding color to the outer inner portion of the letter or the inner portion with gouache we brought.  She used the overhead projector to show us each step.  We were to add gold gouache to the open sections of the letter and outline the letter and flourishes using sumi ink and a pointed Nikko G nib.  It was a very nice make and take!

**She suggested buying the handmade paper from Silk & Willow or Fabulous Fancy Pants.
