May 2021 Meeting

 Meeting Minutes May 11, 2021

written by Candy while TJ was ill.  Thank you!

It was a snowy, cold evening but many braved the weather to attend. Show and share:

Cecelia showed work from her online class with Yves Leterme, both a lettering sample sheet and a dark colored paper with her lettering. Cheryl showed her “Integrity” piece she’d lettered with Bister ink. Deb’s box using paste paper. Kristi Lyons’ two poem pieces using Bister inks.

Sherry Weaver taught Pointed Pen Variations, and she used one of her favorite nibs, the Hunt 22. Sherry taught us that “Can’t do wrong” is a thing and she had us watch her doing each letter, then writing words on our own using the variations of the letters. Sherry had given us exemplars to follow and provided different papers for practice; even a handmade corner bookmark for us to use. Everyone did a great job. Sherry had taken a virtual class from Pat Blair (former calligrapher to the President) on writing with the triangle brush. The triangle brush is longer, but Sherry loves the Beste wedge brush size #10 and showed us how to create flowers and leaves on her pieces. Jen Sweeney has an IG account by the name of Jsweeneydesigns, and her artwork is inspiring. The wedge brush can be found on Jerry’s Artarama for $6.13 on super sale right now (normally $18.55). She also loves using XL Canson 300 Watercolor Paper – 9x13 inch pads with 30 sheets for $7.54 at dickblick.com.
