Deb's Creations

At our March meeting, Deb showed how we can take an idea we see from a store-bought card and use it in making one of our own. Here are several photos (thanks to Carole!) of examples she gave. The store-bought card is on the left and the new one she created next to it.

This was a terrific demonstration by the "Queen of Cards"!

St. Jude's Ranch for Children

One of our guild's extended community outreach opportunities is participating in St. Jude's Ranch for Children's Recycled Card Program. I have been collecting card fronts for several months from our members and recently sent off 2 boxes/7 plus pounds worth of card fronts. My heart-felt thanks for your contributions--keep saving them! We can be very proud of our efforts and the funds they help generate. To find out more, look here.
Very Sincerely, Tammi Jo

Minutes from March

Meeting Minutes 8 March 2011
21 present

**Cecelia mentioned a few things; the first Back 2 Basics class was well attended and well received, keep a look-out for the e-Digest –it’s absolutely wonderful, the new membership cards she designed and why she likes the company that produces them, and the Rohr’s workshop in a couple of weeks. A sign up sheet was passed around for volunteers to help with various parts of the workshop and Candy collected dues for the year. With that and a couple of comments/questions, it only took 8 minutes!
**Time for show and tell and most of us had something to share that we had worked on since our time together in January. We had a nice variety from finished/commissioned projects to 3D buttons and books.
**Our own Deb Strawn did a great job presenting all kinds of tips and tricks for making store-bought cards our own by looking at the original layout and design and tweaking it with different sized/colored papers and quotes/fonts/hands. She had plenty of samples to show us, had handouts with ideas, passed around several of her own renditions, and shared her knowledge freely. THANK YOU, DEB!
**The meeting adjourned before 9 pm.

With the End in View

With the End in View
The one thing that helps me to get a project conceived, planned, and executed is by back planning from the end back to the start point.  For instance, if I need a completed piece ready to reproduce at the end of March, I evaluate and plan based on the time available.  This means I have eight weeks to do design work, planning the layout, lining paper & doing sample lettering.  Then it’s time to do the actual lettering, make repairs and erase lines.  Because I practice lettering regularly, I have a good idea of how much time each part of the project will take.  So I mark out time in my schedule each week with some leeway to get the project completed about four days prior to the deadline.  That’s my sanity gap.
